Of Nigerian ancestry, Jay lived in England for the first seven years of his life, then alongside his family moved to the USA, firstly to Maryland, but after a while they settled in Frisco, Texas, where Jay went to Liberty High School. He started playing football for the school’s team, and in his senior year scored 35 touchdowns with 2.240 rushing yards to his name. He also excelled in track and field, participating in the 4×400 and 4×100 relay competitions.
After matriculation, Jay received a scholarship to play football at Boise State University, but unfortunately was redshirted for his first year, having spent five days in prison following an arrest for stealing a pair of sweatpants from a Walmart store.
The next year he played in 11 games and compiled a record of four touchdowns and 548 yards. Proving that he is capable of delivering high performance, in 2013 Jay played in 13 games and posted his career-high in rushing yards with 1,425 and also added 18 touchdowns. Jay didn’t stop there as in 2014 he improved his numbers, posting two 200+ yard performances, first against Colorado State, and then against Utah State University, and finished the season with 1,823 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns, both school records, and which earned him First-team All-MWC selection. Jay then decided to declare for the 2015 NFL Draft, and forego his last year of college eligibility.
He was drafted by the Dolphins as the 149th overall pick and became a professional on the 7th May 2015, after signing a contract with the franchise worth $2.5 million over four years, with an additional bonus of $220,813, which firmly established his net worth.
He missed the season’s start due to a broken ribs injury he suffered in the last preseason game. He made his debut on the 8th November playing against the Buffalo Bills, subsequently wearing the Dolphins jersey nine times and scoring one rushing touchdown, with 187 rushing yards. The following season was the best in his career so far; He played in 15 games, 12 of which were starts and scored eight touchdowns from 1,272 rushing yards, with several memorable games, including three 200+ yard games, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and twice against the Buffalo Bills, thus becoming only the fourth player in the history of NFL to have three games with 200 or more rushing yards in one season. Thanks to his great form during the 2016 season, Jay was chosen for the 2016 Pro Bowl.
Looking to continue with great plays from 2016 season, Jay was now considered the Dolphins’ first running back, he just couldn’t deal with the pressure and with several under the radar games, Jay was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fourth-round pick in the upcoming draft. Since then, he has regained his form and in seven games rushed for 408 yards and one touchdown, and helped the Eagles win the LII Super Bowl by rushing for 57 yards.
When it comes to his personal life, Jay is currently single, primarily focused on his budding career, and is also interested in charity work, most recently being a part of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats” campaign.
