Stardew Valley’s waters are full of cute fishies that are yours to catch as long as a set of conditions are met. Not all fish swim in the same waters, during the same seasons, or at the same time of the day.

As a matter of fact, catching some fish requires a higher fishing level unless you’re an absolute pro and can slay that mini-game. Pufferfish, for example, are really picky when it comes to spawn conditions. And even if you find them, there’s no guarantee you’ll catch them since their floater swimming type can be tricky to master.

Where To Catch Pufferfish in Stardew Valley

Pufferfish spawn in Pelican Town’s Beach during summer from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., but only when the sun is shining. If it’s rainy, it’s time for plan B: look for it in trash cans.

Alternatively, pufferfish can be caught in Ginger Island’s south area and Pirate Cove during any season, not only in summer.

If it’s not summer or sunny, and you haven’t unlocked Ginger Island yet, give the Traveling Cart a try. A Pufferfish can cost between 600 and 1000 gold. Or, if you’ve got a Magic Bait, you can skip all of the above and just head to the beach.

All Uses for Pufferfish in Stardew Valley

After catching this rare fish, there are a couple of things you can do with it. Pufferfish contributes to completing the Specialty Fish Bundle in the Fish Tank. It can also be used to tailor the Sailor Shirt in Emily’s Sewing Machine. It can also be used for recipes or gifting, but I’d argue it’s safest to place them in a fish pond for reproduction.
