Jake T. Austin is an American actor most notable for his role as “Max Russo” in Wizards of Waverly Place. He also voiced “Diego” from the animated series, Go, Diego, Go!. Austin was born Jake Austin Szymanski on December 3, 1994 in New York City. His parents are Giny Rodriquez Toranzo and Joe Szymanski. He has a younger sister named Ava. Austin attended Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack, New York.
CAREER
Austin began his entertainment career at an early age. He started out doing commercials in 2002 before landing his first acting role in The Late Show With David Letterman (2003). Austin voiced the character “Diego” in 3 episodes of Dora the Explorer in 2004. The role of Diego was reprised in Go, Diego, Go! from 2005 to 2008 for a total of 56 episodes. Other early voice work include “Nicky” in The Ant Bully (2006), “Yankee Irving” in Everyone’s Hero (2006), and “Bluz” in Happy Monster Band (2008).
Austin gained further popularity with his role as “Max Russo” in the Disney fantasy sitcom, Wizards of Waverly Place. He appeared in 94 episodes and won a Hollywood Teen TV Awards in 2012 for his performance. He also starred in Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009) alongside Selena Gomez and David Henrie. Austin was cast as “Jesus Foster” in the first two seasons of The Fosters (2013-15). Other notable screen appearances include Hotel for Dogs (2009) with Emma Roberts, New Year’s Eve (2010) with Halle Berry, and Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn (2014).
