Does Dead By Daylight Support Split-Screen Multiplayer?

Does Dead by Daylight support couch co-op or split-screen multiplayer? Let's go over that important question.

First Published May 31, 2023, 23:30

If you're a fan of the horror game Dead by Daylight, you might be wondering if the game supports split-screen multiplayer so you can enjoy the game with your friends. After all, if you're playing in the same room as your friend, couch co-op is a lot easier than playing on two separate devices.

If you're wondering whether Dead by Daylight supports split-screen co-op, let's answer that question so you can figure out whether you'll be able to play alongside your fellow survivors or killers.

1 June 2023 - We've updated this article to reflect whether Dead by Daylight supports split-screen play in 2023.

Does Dead by Daylight Support Couch Co-op?

Unfortunately, no, Dead by Daylight does not currently support couch co-op.

The game is not designed for couch co-op. Split-screen multiplayer would allow survivors to see one another's screens - or even perhaps the killer's screen - ruining some of the suspense and fun of the game.

Players are also not meant to know one another's perks right off the bat, adding even more issues to the idea of adding couch co-op.

How To Play Dead By Daylight With Friends

Though there isn't any way to play Dead by Daylight through couch co-op, you can still play the game with your friends by creating a survivor party or custom lobby.

You can play with up to four other survivors by entering the survivor lobby and clicking the plus signs on each survivor slot, inviting your friends to the party.

How To Start A Custom Dead By Daylight Game

For a custom lobby, up to four friends can take on the role of one to four survivors while one can play the killer. Note that you will need at least one killer and one survivor to start any match.

You can have unlimited spectators in the custom mode for friends who may want to sit out or if you have too many people for everyone to play every match. All perks are also available in this mode.

To play custom matches, open the 'Custom' game mode and invite your friends by pressing the plus buttons.

You can switch from survivor to killer to spectator using the left-side UI.

Thankfully, while Dead by Daylight doesn't have couch co-op, there are other ways to play the game with your friends. If DBD ever adds split-screen multiplayer, we will be the first to let you know.
